displaying data in beautiful ways

Data visualisations which have been well designed, are notably elegant, and easy to use. There is an opportunity to draw us into the data and encourage us to explore the data for ourselves. The website www.informationisbeautiful.net has many examples of fascinating data visualisations, showing what can be done with design thinking and careful, useful representation of the data.

This is an example National Geographic looking at migration waves illustrating beautifully the idea that an image can literally replace a 1000 words.

ourworldindata.org leads the way in displaying complex datasets, in ways which allow you to see the patterns for yourself, make comparisons and look at changes over time. This is an example which looks at maternal mortality rates over time throughout the world.
